I read a nice article on cleantechnica about the costs of the tires! The author compares the cost of batteries and the cost of tires over the life of the car. He concludes that over the life of the car (1 million mile) the purchase of tires is about 10 times as expensive than the cost of batteries per kilometer driven. For me, the moral of this story is that Elon and his men should also let go of first-principle thinking on car tires. Can anything disruptive still happen here? But perhaps even more important is the confirmation that the cost of the battery pack no longer plays a crucial role in the total cost picture. Certainly not for the 4680! That was of course different for years.
